Denise Patterson’s* mother always taught her to respect individual differences and value that which is on the inside above all else. While Denise continues to learn important lessons daily, this is the one that guides her and has become the cornerstone of her life. Recognizing that every person is different and will require specialized assistance at varied times throughout their lives, she has developed a profound appreciation for what she has while she still has it.

“We come in with nothing, and we leave with nothing,” Denise reflects, understanding the profound beauty of giving, of leaving a legacy that would carry on through time. “The ability to give something while we are still here, however big or small, is a blessing.”

Inspired by Maj. Gen. (res.) Doron Almog’s poignant TED talk about his son, Eran, Denise felt a desire to contribute to something meaningful and to leave a mark that would exemplify the lessons of respect, understanding, and love. She was determined to support an organization that shared her belief in the intrinsic value of every human being. ADI mirrored her belief that everyone deserves a chance to live a life filled with love and purpose. “I see that your aim is for everyone you care for to reach their full potential. I see your residents happy, cared for and loved. It is reassuring and heartwarming that they are your top priority.”

Denise approached this decision with a quiet elegance and humility. Her legacy is a gift to the future – a gift that will continue to nurture and uplift those with severe disabilities. Denise’s story reminds us that a legacy isn’t built on grand gestures alone but on the simple, profound acts of kindness that last through time. Her legacy will be a source of inspiration for generations to come, in a world where differences are celebrated and the potential of every individual is valued.
