Tikkun Olam – Die Welt reparieren

In 2016, seeking to impact the public on a grand scale and make a real difference for individuals with disabilities, ADI joined forces with Israel’s Ministry of Education to create the “Tikkun Olam” project, an initiative focused on educating the next generation of leaders about disability inclusion.

Working to bring about a change in societal attitudes towards individuals with disabilities, Tikkun Olam exposes Israeli students of all ages to people with disabilities open to telling their story and answering straightforward questions about the challenges of living with disabilities and how these challenges can be overcome with determination, positivity, and acceptance.

Through disability simulation in experiential programs, students learn patience and tolerance as they find ways to overcome objective obstacles in the performance of simple, everyday tasks.

In its first year, more than 10,000 Israeli students from 60 schools participated in the program, leading to a noticeable spike in youth-led volunteerism and social activism initiatives. Since then, Tikkun Olam has reached well over 100,000 students and continues to utilize its trademark “hands-on” approach, as well as eLearning and social media platforms, in the hopes of empowering every student across the country through innovative disability inclusion programming.

Interactive Agricultural School

In conjunction with the Tikkun Olam project, hundreds of students visit ADI Negev-Nahalat Eran’s unique Interactive Agricultural School, empowering them to learn about farming, agriculture, ecology and science together with integration, acceptance and disability inclusion through theoretical and experiential studies and task-based research projects.

“There are no words to describe this program, how important and educational it is, how powerful it is and how much emotion it instills in each student. It is so important to expose children to people with disabilities and instill in them the concepts of acceptance and inclusion.” ORT High School, Arad
